Do I Need Getting Ready Photos?

Many couples go back and forth on whether they want, need, or can do without getting ready photos. Some feel it's an extra cost for photos they "won't be printing anyway." Others aren't sure if the available space will even look nice. Personally, I look at it from two perspectives: as an artist and as a photojournalist.

The artist in me absolutely ADORES arranging the wedding attire for pictures. A photographer's pride and joy is finding a good spot for the dress then fluffing it up in all its Swarovski glory! I have photographed family heirloom pearl sets, custom designer dresses, and special memento keepsakes. These all tell a beautiful story when arranged together. And when else is a professional photographer going to get macro detail photos of your engraved wedding rings?!

If you don't think the dressing room is "worth" having photos in (sometimes older ceremony buildings have cramped waiting rooms), then I will lean more towards a photojournalist opinion. Getting dressed is a very special moment. Your family and wedding party are going to help you look THE BEST for one of the biggest moments of your life. They will cheer for you, cry with you, and wish you all the love, joy, and happiness for your future. I love taking those last photos before you get married.

Ultimately, you should choose what you feel is right for you. It's your wedding! If professional getting ready photos is still not your thing then have a friend snap some pics instead. Either way make sure to get some photos to remember the moment because the day goes by fast!
